Big Bang

We want to inspire and encourage all young people to discover exciting possibilities in STEM. The Big Bang mission is to showcase surprising possibilities and connect young people to inspiring role models in STEM.

The Big Bang Fair

The Big Bang Fair, the UK's biggest STEM event for young people. Held most recently in June 2023 at the NEC, Birmingham, The Big Bang Fair saw tens of thousands take part in hands-on activities, careers panels and incredible shows. The Fair is possible thanks our funders and supporters and all the volunteers who help bring STEM careers to life for our young visitors, their teachers and parents. Over the 3 days, school students get the opportunity to hear first-hand from exciting scientists and engineers and connect with inspiring career role models.

The Big Bang Competition

The Big Bang Competition recognises and rewards young people’s science and engineering project work and identifies the UK Young Engineer and UK Young Scientist of the Year.

From a low-cost, flat-pack 3D printer; an app that helps people escape safely from fires to an investigation into new ways of separating ‘Mirror Image Molecules’, the science and engineering work carried out by these young people is quite simply awe-inspiring.

Previous winners have gone on to represent the UK in international competitions, to study STEM at the highest levels, to work in some of our biggest engineering companies and to set up their own businesses.
